Meet the Minister

With thirty years of experience in the health system of Seychelles, Minister Peggy Vidot is committed to the development of the country’s health sector. She holds a postgraduate qualification in Management of Health Services from Manchester University.

Minister Vidot’s experience in health began in nursing practice followed by several senior positions at the Ministry of Health in community health, teaching and later on health management and policy development. Her roles at the Ministry of Health have included, the Director of Nursing from 1987 to 1995, Director of Health Planning and Operational Research from 1995-2003, Special Adviser to Minister of Health from 2012 to 2013 and recently, the Principal Secretary for Health from 2013 to 2016.

In these roles, Minister Vidot has spearheaded numerous developments to better healthcare in Seychelles, including the establishment of the community health services in Seychelles and the setup and coordination of a task force to define health sector reform in 2013.

In 2003, Minister Vidot was appointed Adviser Health Section in the Social Transformation Programmes Division (STPD) of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London where she led programmes in Human Resources for Health and Maternal and Child Health and Non communicable Diseases. In that role she worked with governments across the Commonwealth to strengthen their health policies as well as contribute to national, regional and global efforts to achieve the Millenium Development Goals.

Minister Vidot is passionate about providing quality health care and evidence base practice.
