What is the programme?

Sexual and reproductive health is critical to an individual’s wellbeing and is central to human development. It covers complete physical, mental and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system and its functions and processes.

  • Adolescent birth rates remain high.
  • Breast and prostate cancer incidence is increasing.
  • Sexual violence remains prevalent.
  • STI and HIV cases have increased in recent years.

Aims of the programme

  • Promote and protect sexual and reproductive health and rights.
  • Prevent unintended pregnancies.
  • Reduce sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
  • Improve access to family planning services.
  • Improve early detection of reproductive health conditions and cancers.
