Dental Hygienists primarily offer clinical services in the adult population for the management of gum diseases and its supportive structure. The aim is to prevent progression of these diseases to avoid tooth loss. Moreover, dental hygienists provide individual counselling to patients to raise awareness about their oral health status and on oral disease prevention. Developing personal skills to prevent oral diseases through “tell” “show” and “do” is another aspect of dental hygienists duties.

Dental hygienists also conduct group dental talks in different work organizations, and institutions. Individual counselling are also provided in health facilities targeting high-risk groups.

Services provided by dental hygienists targets the general population with more focus on high-risk groups e.g. diabetes, elders, pregnant women and children.

Where and when are dental hygienists services provided?

Dental Hygienist mostly work from 8 AM - 4 PM from Mondays to Fridays excluding public holidays. Services are provided in various health centers and school campuses distributed across Mahe, Praslin and La Digue.

Appointment to see a dental hygienist is based on referral. An appointment will be given depending on the urgency of treatment. Individuals are advised to consult their dental clinic to get a referral.
