The Ministry of Health received on Monday 2nd September 2017, a donation of more than 100 books from the Order of Malta.

Mrs Alexandra Azais, Ministre Conseiller of the Order of Malta in Seychelles presented the books to the Minister for Health, Jean Paul Adam in a ceremony at the Red Roof Building. This was attended by the CEO of Health Care Agency, the Public Health Commissioner and other management staff of the Ministry.

The books vary in content, from dietology, fitness, cardiology and specific diseases like diabetes and hepatitis. These will be placed in the library located at the Sheikh Kalifah diagnostic centre so staff can have full access to them.

In a short speech Minister Adam thanked the Order of Malta for their kind gift and guaranteed that the books would be totally put to good use as the library is well frequented by staff of all cadres.

“These books will help all of us at the Ministry of Health, the Health Care Agency and other associated organisations to better share information amongst ourselves. They will be equally beneficial for those for who are not medical professionals to delve into the fascinating world of medicine,” Minister Adam said.

Mrs Azais reiterated the benefits of the donation to the Ministry of Health, while speaking to those gathered, as well. She noted that reading is one of the most important activities for people to enrich their knowledge and open their mind in health and positive way.

The Order of Malta has been making contributions to the Ministry of Health for 20 years. This latest donation was given by the spouse of former Italian Consul in Seychelles, Mr Franco Esposito to share some of his acquired knowledge of the world.
