Resumption of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination for adolescent and adults in regional health facilities

The Ministry of Health of Seychelles will restart offering Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for adults and adolescents 12 years and older, at regional Government health centres, as from 9th March 2023.

This is in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), relevant scientific research and discussions with the manufacturer, has issued a notice that shelf-life of all batches of the adult/adolescent formulation of Pfizer vaccines can be extended to 18 months from date of manufacture.

The communiqué has been discussed at the National Immunisation Technical Advisory Group and the recommendations sent to the Ministry of Health. The Ministry has maintained the adult/adolescent formulation Pfizer doses in ideal storage conditions in expectation of such an extension, and as such has deemed them valid for use through to 30th June 2023.

The Ministry of Health also notes that similar research is underway globally, for ascertaining stability of the paediatric formulation of the Pfizer vaccine, beyond its labelled shelf life.

Vaccines for children aged 5-11 years will also be on offer at the same centres. The key recommendations for vaccination by age-groups are as follows:
