Seychelles rolls out COVISHIELD second dose

As the vaccination campaign continues with the second doses of the Covishield vaccine, The Seychelles now has high hopes of achieving COVID-19 herd immunity sooner rather than later.

As of Monday, 22nd to Saturday 27th March 2021, the vaccination team of the Ministry of Health, is administering second doses for people who were vaccinated between 26th to 31st January 2021.

To note, the original appointments given was between February 23rd to March 3rd, 2021 and it is important that particular attention is paid to the vaccination schedule published, for Monday 22nd to Saturday 27th March.

We will re-call that the change in the appointment to 8 weeks apart, announced on January 22nd, follows recommendations from the manufacturers, Oxford University (United Kingdom) and AstraZeneca. According to a research conducted by the manufacturer at different time intervals, the vaccine is more effective when the first and second doses are administered 8 – 12 weeks apart as compared to 4 weeks.

With over 40% of the targeted population having received their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, Seychelles remains amongst the top countries globally, to roll-out one of the fastest vaccine distribution programmes.
Nonetheless, it remains a predominant factor that everyone practices the different measures to stop the spread of COVID-19.
