Health officers visit COVID-19 testing station

On Wednesday 15th July 2020, a health delegation led by Dr Robert Michel, the Operations Lead for response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Seychelles conducted a visit of the construction site of a COVID-19 testing station at the International Airport in Pointe Larue.

The delegation comprised of members of the Rapid Response Team, Health staff who will work at the station, Public Health Officers, an Infection, Prevention and Control Representative and the PR and communications Representative for the Department of Health.

The visit featured a tour of the dedicated space in the International arrival lounge led by the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), to identify the layout for operations and to monitor the progress.

The testing station will facilitate random testing of passengers upon the reopening of the country to commercial flights on the 1st August 2020.

'Global Solidarity, Shared Responsibilitity' is the theme for this year's World AIDS Day, commemorated today Tuesday 1st December.

The activities for the occasion were launched by the Principal Secretary for Health Dr Bernard during a workshop aimed at building capacity for HIV & viral hepatitis prevention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reading the Minister's messaged, PS Valentin reminded health workees that as healthcare providers they need to ensure that care continues during the response the pandemic and that HIV services are not affected.

While measures taken to respond to the pandemic national is seen to have impacted access HIV services such as educational outreach and testing, the Ministry of Health and it's partners are working strongly towards reinforcing these services as part of continuity of care programmes.
