The Ministry of Health hosted a major 3 days Primary Health Conference from the 11th to the 13th July 2019 at the Avani, Barbarons Seychelles Resort and Spa under the theme “Lasante Pour Nou Tou, Partou e Par Nou Tou”.
This was done in close collaboration with stakeholders and the World Health Organization and comes 41 years after the historic 1978 Alma-Ata Declaration on primary health care.
Attendees at the opening ceremony included Ministers, PSs, diplomats, Members of the National Assemble, health workers, youth delegates, WHO primary health care specialist, civil society, patients, media and the private sector.
The purpose of the conference was to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of primary health care in Seychelles in the light of the evolving society with a view to respond to new and emerging challenges, safeguard the gains of yesteryears and address the priority unmet needs.
Investing in primary health care is one of the most effective, cost-effective and equitable strategies to improve health outcomes and advance universal health coverage.
