New Dialysis Unit opens at Seychelles Hospital

A newly-refurbished unit for haemodialysis opened at Seychelles Hospital on Friday 12th April 2019 at 11 a.m. The Minister for Health, Jean Paul Adam officiated the ceremony.

The refurbishment increased the number of dialysis chairs on Mahé from 26 to 40, an increase in dialysis capacity of about 54%.

AMSA Renal Care, a Dubai-based Indian Company, which has a contract for the management of haemodialysis services at the Health Care Agency since March 2015, has funded the refurbishment of the unit.

“The capacity for dialysis has not only increased by fourteen (14) new dialysis chairs but also by the addition of a new reverse osmosis plant, an essential implement for haemodialysis,” said Dr Kenneth Henriette, Director of Seychelles Hospital.

“The new dialysis unit is expected to significantly improve dialysis services for the 173 patients on Mahé,” he added.

Elsia Sinon, Nurse Manager of the Haemodialysis Unit has stated that henceforth, more staff will be able to leave earlier in the evening, be with families and be well relaxed before returning to work the next day.

“This will improve their work-life balance,” affirmed the Ministry of Health.
